Garter Stitch Baby Booties Pattern

Size: 0-3 months
Foot Length: 9 cm (can adjust for larger sizes by adding more rows to the foot section)
Yarn: 4-Ply  weight yarn, approx. 75g
Needles: 3 mm (US 2.5) knitting needles
Gauge: 24 sts and 32 rows = 10 cm in garter stitch (knit every row)

Instructions

Cast on 34 stitches (adjust for bigger size as needed).

Cuff

  • Rows 1-6: Knit every row (garter stitch).
  • Row 7: Knit 1 row of purl stitches to create a turning ridge (this will help the cuff fold over nicely).
  • Rows 8-13: Knit every row (garter stitch).

At this point, you can fold the cuff down along the purl ridge to have a neat finish.

Leg Section

  • Rows 14-20: Knit every row (garter stitch).

This section forms the body of the bootie and extends to the ankle. Adjust the number of rows here if you need a taller or shorter leg section.

Shaping the Foot

Now we shape the top of the bootie by working the middle stitches for the toe and decreasing on the sides.

  • Row 21: Knit 12 stitches, place the next 10 stitches on a stitch holder, knit the last 12 stitches. You will now work on these remaining 12 stitches for the foot.

Top of the Foot

  • Rows 22-32: Knit all stitches (garter stitch).

This section forms the top of the foot.

Rejoin for Sole

Now rejoin the stitches from the stitch holder:

  • Row 33: Knit 12 stitches from the right side of the foot, pick up and knit 10 stitches from the stitch holder, then knit the remaining 12 stitches. You now have 34 stitches on the needle again.

Sole

  • Rows 34-44: Knit every row (garter stitch).

Finishing

  • Cast off all stitches.
  • Fold the bootie in half and sew the back seam and the sole seam.

Tie

  • Knit a simple I-cord:
Cast on 4 stitches and work in I-cord for about 20-25 cm, depending on the size of the bootie and how long you want the tie.

  • Thread the tie through the ankle section by weaving it in and out between stitches.
